Peter Zaitsev will be giving his excellent presentation "Scaling MySQL powered Web Sites by Sharding and Replication"

Description from the 2008 Velocity conference:
When your application grows beyond capacity of a single MySQL server there are few ways to scale, with most typical being Replication and Sharding.

In this presentation you will learn how, depending on your application performance scalability and high availability goals, you can choose what proper scaling strategy will be good for you.

We also will speak about scalability limitations of replication of Replication and Sharding, implementation complexities, and aspects of operation.

Best meetup I've yet attended. Kudos to the meetup/venue organizers and to Peter Z for a great presentation.

I heard somebody say about 1/2 of the registered attendees would show up, but by midway through the presentation it was mostly a full house.

    •  Some new insight was provided. Over all the more of an introduction than an in depth examination of problems and gotchas, which would have been far more interesting. It was like preaching to the choir. We are for the most part rather proficient in the generalities, moving toward the 'solving issues and possible hiccups' is a more productive use of time.
    •  The best Meetup ever! Peter is one of the top MySQL folks around and his talks are always interesting. It was great!
    •  The discussion was too general, and left a lot to be desired. I could have read what was presented in a blog post, and I was hoping that the nitty, gritty details involved, or an example would be presented.
    •  It was a good experience in all. However we can do something like " speaker asking questions from audience to make the things more interactive

       Outstanding! Thank you!
    •  good presentation. strong presenter. sound was ok. visibility of the screens could have been better
    •  PeterZ is very knowledgeable and he does an excellent job in presenting a very engaging topic.
    •  It was an informative talk. My one complaint is that the talk was still going when I left at 7:30, but the invite said 6 to 7. If I'd known it was going to go so much longer I would have adjusted my plans to accommodate. Also, one "nice to have" that I'd like to have seen is a url to download the speakers slides to make it easier to follow along from the back of the room (maybe this was announced at the beginning of the meeting and I missed it?).
    •  Peter's talks are always excellent and there was a very good crowd who asked good questions.
    •  I felt that the talk was too elementary.
    •  Peter Z is a smart guy and has a lot to say about MySQL scaling. Pretty much everything he presented is included in the newly released edition of "High Performance MySQL" (and is also common sense to those who understand MySQL) but it was a good opportunity to network with others in the community.
