Full-Time or Part-time Web Developer

Beezwax Datatools, Inc., is a 13-year old database design firm based in Oakland, CA with over 350 clients including Fortune 500 companies and many of the Bay Area's most innovative firms in technology and the arts. Long recognized as a leading FileMaker firm, Beezwax is expanding its web evelopment capacity.

We're focused on creating the next generation of highly interactive, usable information applications, systems that streamline our clients' workflow and make business fun again. We use AJAX, Ruby On Rails, and PHP working with both SQL and FileMaker databases on the back end.

We're looking for a kick-ass developer on contract-to-hire basis to help us turn around a wide variety of open contracts. You should be actively engaged and passionate about the technologies you're using, quick to learn, willing to teach and collaborate.


Skills We're Seeking:

* proven experience with either PHP or RoR, and interest/familiarity with both. Active in the Rails development community a plus. Up-to-date with Rails best practices a big plus.
* sound knowledge of SQL
* advanced XHTML/CSS handcoding skills
* facile with JS, XML, JSON, and AJAX. Working knowledge of at least two JS libraries: Prototype, JQuery, YUI, ExtJS, etc.
* familiarity with FileMaker
* *nix systems experience a plus
* knowledge of REST, HTTP, and TCP/IP a plus
* knowledge of design patterns a plus
* experience with test driven development a plus
* agile
* proven experience managing tight budget requirements
* proven experience assessing and documenting client needs, building a development strategy
* interested in small firm work
* desire to wear many hats: development, project management, design, even a little sales
* flexible schedule, part time OK
