Hello everyone,

I'm setting up some new database machines and am going to use XFS to solve a problem we were seeing with ext3, however I don't have a lot of experience with the XFS mount options. Sooo I was wondering if people in the group have example mount options for a heavily used DB. If you have different options for your binlog mount from your DB mount then please specify which is which.

Check out the Linux Optimization presentation from the last MySQL Conference.

A couple relevant notes I took from that presentation:

  • Use BBWC on raid cards. Then, disable write cache on disks.
  • Don't set write barrier if using BBWC
  • Facebook moved from ext3 to xfs. ext3 very slow to delete large files. Makes dropping large table slow.
  • With xfs, disable write barrier with "nobarrier". Concurrent writes possible with O_DIRECT
  • Fusion SSD cards are 2-3 times faster than Intel SSD cards and 10-20 times faster than HDD. Fusion cards really benefit from xfs.
