Our client is a financially stable and growing, high-traffic, consumer oriented website. The leader in a niche space. We are looking for a contract MySQL DBA/Architect for 12 months, potentially 24 months.

This is the highest non-managing technical position in the database development function. Accountable for leading the design, development and implementation of leading edge database systems that support the organization’s strategic initiatives.

Manage the schedules of assigned projects, (rather than managing senior DBAs)
Database Administration
Design and develop highly complex and secure databases (e.g., transaction, enrollment, etc.) for web / HTML-based applications.
Designs back-end database architecture and data warehousing protocols.
Develops software to interface with databases that generate desired information on current systems, while anticipating migration to next generation systems.

Ideal candidate will have:

Extensive breadth and depth of technical expertise.
10+ years experience in state-of-the-art database systems development
6+ years DBA experience
Data Architecture
MySQL database administration
Oracle Database Administration and mining
MySQL and Oracle database tools
Expert in Perl/Python, MySQL, DSS, database access middleware, hybrid models of DBMS
Related transaction processing systems
In-depth knowledge of LINUX\UNIX system administration and/or NT systems
BS in Computer Science (preferred)

The job requires a high degree of emotional intelligence & the ability to understand very complex and changing systems.

40% Technical Lead: Technical lead for data intensive projects. Lead cross-functional teams to specify and build applications. Projects include: Tools for merchandising, tools for large scale Data Migrations, Data Mining and Reporting Applications. Role involves leadership of design, implementation, and team leadership.

40% Database Administration: Responsible for high availability of database systems: backup/recovery, tablespace management, database security management, query monitoring and performance tuning.

15% Data and Systems Architecture: Work with business users and software developers to define and/or implement data architecture, particularly for data mining, and for new applications. Systems architecture responsibility involves researching options for database hardware and software, and representing DBA/DB Architect requirements to a cross-functional team. Provide Data Architecture and DBA support to software development projects.

5% General Management: Involved in budgeting process; select tools, identify opportunities for competitive advantage and growth.

Daily: Keeps SCRUM team informed on progress and issues with current development

Weekly: Handles data transfer issues with external fulfiller and tracks the status of such issues

Weekly: Collaboration to developing technical designs with Network Operations, Database/DBA, QA and HTML/Production groups.

Monthly: Evaluation of new opportunities / outside partners.

Monthly: On-call 1 week per month to handle system problems and requests
