Class Information: Ruby for Programmers Class Name: Ruby for Programmers Instructor: Sarah Allen Dates: September 26- November 7, 2-4pm (6 Sundays, no class on Oct.31) Location: 414 Mason St #401 SF, CA 94102 Cost: $325.00 Description This class is designed for people with programming experience in another language or who have been introduced to Ruby through Rails and want to learn more Ruby. In this class we will focus on learning the Ruby language through exploratory development and test-first teaching. Weekly homework assignments will provide hands-on reinforcement of concepts. We will dive deeply into Objects and Classes and cover Modules, Arrays, Hashes, String, Regular Expressions, and do practical things in the file system and over http. You will build a gem! You will receive a book, "The Well-Grounded Rubyist" by David Black, which will supplement the class instruction. Class Information: Rails for Rubyists Class Name: Rails for Rubyists Instructor: Sarah Allen Dates: September 26 - November 7, 4:30-6:30pm (6 Sundays, no class on Oct.31) Location: 414 Mason St #401 SF, CA 94102 Cost: $325.00 Description Through test-driven and exploratory development, you will become familiar with ActiveRecord, including associations. You will gain an understanding of the SQL implicitly written through your Ruby code. You will learn about customizing views, view helpers, routes and controller actions and understand the log file. After taking this class there should be nothing magical about scaffold. A book will be provided. There will be homework assignments that include both reading and writing code. Note: We'll be using Rails 3 for class, but I will review the differences with Rails 2, so you will be able to work on an older project if needed. Prerequisite: you should know Ruby already or be signed up for the Ruby class. If you are unsure of your skill level, I can send you a set of rspec tests that if you can make them pass you know enough Ruby to take the class. Class Information: Javascript Fundamentals Class Name: Javascript Fundamentals Instructor: Lorien Henry-Wilkins Dates: September 27 - November 1, 6:30-8:30 (6 Mondays) Location: 414 Mason St. #401 San Francisco, CA 94132 Cost: $325.00 Description The target audience for this class is people who are programmers in another language and understand web development. A book will be provided to compliment the class instruction. The class will cover: - Javascript language - TDD using Jasmine - Working with the browser DOM - AJAX - jQuery basics Lorien has expertise in cross-browser Javascript, OpenLaszlo and jQuery. One of her early projects was svg2vml, a javascript library for cross-browser vector graphic drawing. Class Information: Learn to Program in Ruby Class Name: Learn to Program in Ruby Instructor: Liah Hansen Dates: September 28 - November 2, 7:30-9:30 (6 Tuesdays) Location: 414 Mason St. #403 San Francisco, CA 94132 Cost: $325.00 Description An introductory Ruby class for people who are new to programming or have up to a year of programming experience in another language. We will be using the book "Learn to Program" by Chris Pine and using test-first teaching exercises. There class will meet for 2 hours on Thursday evenings and there will be homework and reading assignments in between the classes. Everyone must bring their own laptop. Kids are welcome as students! However, if they are 12 or under, they must bring a grown-up. Liah Hansen will be the instructor for this class. She is a Ruby on Rails engineer at Blazing Cloud and has been teaching with Blazing Cloud since our teaching program began. Class Information: Learn Ruby: Applied Practice Class Name: Learn Ruby: Applied Practice Instructor: Liah Hansen Dates: September 28 - November 9, 5:30-7:15 (7 Tuesdays) Location: 414 Mason St. #401 San Francisco, CA Cost: $325.00 Description The focus of this class is writing lots of code. Half the class time will consist of coding demonstrations by the instructor. During the remainder of class time students will implement test-first Ruby exercises using popular Ruby testing frameworks including RSpec and Cucumber. We will use Agile methodologies to simulate a real-world software engineering environment. This class is designed for graduates of 'Learn to Program in Ruby' or those who have done plenty of Ruby learning on there own, but have little or no experience as a professional programmer. Students should have experience working with the following: variables, strings, integers, floats, arrays, hashes, objects and classes. Liah Hansen will be the instructor for this class. Class Information: HTML & CSS for Beginners Class Name: HTML & CSS for Beginners Instructor: Lee Lundrigan Dates: September 29-October 13, 6:30-8:30pm (3 Wednesdays) Location: 414 Mason St #401 SF, CA 94102 Cost: $150.00 Description Learn the basics of building a website from scratch with HTML. You will learn to style your website with CSS. The instructor, Lee Lundrigan is an expert UI developer in CSS and HTML with experience across web and mobile platforms. Class Information: HTML & CSS - Advanced Class Name: HTML & CSS - Advanced Instructor: Lee Lundrigan Dates: October 20 - November 3, 6:30-8:30pm (3 Wednesdays) Location: 414 Mason St #401 SF, CA 94102 Cost: $150.00 Description This class is intended for those with some HTML & CSS knowledge. It builds on the knowledge learned in the 'HTML & CSS for beginners' class and is appropriate for graduates or for those with previous experience.
